Privacy Policy
Last updated 25 September 2026
Housekeep (“we”, “us”) is an app for running a home in India: tasks, a shared shopping list, and the people who help. This policy explains what personal data we handle, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions or requests: privacy@housekeep.live.
Who this covers
- Owners, who sign up and create a household.
- People an owner or family member adds: family, nannies, helpers and others. Their login is created for them by the owner, and they see a short notice about this policy the first time they sign in.
What we collect
- When an owner signs up: name, home name, username, password (stored only as a secure hash) and, optionally, an email address.
- About people added to a household: name, role, and optionally a phone number, username and first password, entered by the owner or a family member.
- Things you create: task names, times, notes and how often they repeat; shopping items, quantities and notes; who added, bought, completed or approved what, and when.
- Collected automatically: when you last had the app open, whether you are online right now (not stored), a record of recent household activity, your notification settings, a push address for your device if you allow notifications, and your IP address and browser details in sign-in and hosting logs.
- We don’t collect: payment details, location, contacts, or any analytics or advertising data.
Why we use it
- To run your household’s shared space: tasks, approvals, the shopping list and the people list.
- To send the notifications you allow: a task assigned to you, a task that is overdue, and a task waiting for your approval.
- To keep accounts secure and prevent abuse, for example by limiting repeated sign-in attempts.
- An owner’s optional email is kept so we can help them get back into their account. It isn’t used for marketing.
Who in your household can see what
- Owner and family: everything in the household, including phone numbers and when people were last active.
- Staff (nanny, helper and others): the tasks assigned to them, the shopping list, and the names and roles of people in the household. They can’t see other people’s phone numbers, email or activity.
- Nobody outside your household can see your household’s data.
- Only the owner can remove people or delete the household.
Service providers and where data is stored
- Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in and live updates. Region: Mumbai, India.
- Vercel hosts the app. The app’s server functions run in Mumbai, India. Vercel keeps request logs.
- Browser push services (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft, depending on your device) deliver notifications. The message content is encrypted; they see only your device’s push address. These services may operate outside India.
- We don’t sell personal data or share it for advertising.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. There are no analytics or advertising cookies.
How long we keep data
- Bought shopping items: cleared after the next midnight (India time).
- Recent activity feed: 90 days.
- Notifications waiting to be sent: 7 days.
- Sign-in attempt records: 1 day, stored as a scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address.
- Task history: about 13 months.
- Everything else: for as long as the household exists.
- When the owner removes someone, their profile, login, devices and settings are deleted straight away. Their name may still appear in task titles or past activity that someone typed, until that expires or is edited.
- When the owner deletes the household, everything in it is deleted straight away. Copies can remain in our providers’ backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.
Your rights and choices
- See and get a copy of your data: use “Download my data” in your profile. The owner can download the whole household.
- Correct it: edit your own name and phone in your profile. For anyone else’s details, the owner can remove and re-add them, or email us.
- Erase it: the owner can remove a person, or delete the whole household from their profile. If you are staff or family, ask the owner, or email us and we will help.
- Change your password at any time from your profile.
- Withdraw consent: stop using Housekeep and ask for your data to be deleted.
- Nominate someone to act for you, and raise a grievance with us at privacy@housekeep.live. We will respond within the time the law requires. You can also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
Housekeep is not meant to be used by anyone under 18. Households sometimes mention children in tasks (for example “Breakfast for Vivaan”); please include only what the task needs. We don’t track or profile children, and we show no advertising.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our providers. The database only lets people see their own household’s data, passwords are stored as secure hashes, and repeated sign-in attempts are limited. Owners set the first password for the people they add; anyone can change their password in their profile.
If something goes wrong
If a data breach affects you, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page and the date at the top when this policy changes.
